Build the Product Around One Low Competition Keyword

Find a keyword with difficulty under 20 and real volume, build the product around it, then launch on Product Hunt for backlinks that reach page one.

Danny Postma, the maker behind HeadshotPro, posted a thread on X answering the jab that he only succeeds because of his following. His rebuttal uses Figcomponents, a product he says makes about $1,200 a month and that he had never mentioned on Twitter, to show how to get traffic with zero audience.

How to pick a keyword with difficulty under 20

Step one is keyword selection, which he calls the most important step. Using a free keyword tool, spend a day or two hunting for a phrase with keyword difficulty under 20, monthly volume above 500 in one country, and plenty of child keywords. His logic: low difficulty means fewer than ten backlinks to reach page one, volume roughly triples worldwide, and ranking for the head term pulls in the long tail, which he says delivers most of the traffic.

Step two is to build the product around that keyword. Give people what they searched for immediately, use the phrase in the domain, titles and alt text without stuffing, create many subpages for long tail variants linked from a category page, and offer a free tier plus a paid option.

Step three is backlinks, and his shortcut is Product Hunt. Finishing last still earns a link from a very high authority domain, and the sites that repost Product Hunt listings add more.

Why it works

Everything is chosen so a small site can win: a keyword nobody strong is defending, content that matches intent, and just enough links.

How to copy it

Do the keyword research before you build. Then ship, launch, and wait: he says real traffic arrives after about three months and grows again around six.
