What we collect
When you bid: the URL or handle, tagline and amount you submit, and a Stripe session ID. Stripe handles your card details; we never see them. When you subscribe: your email address. For everyone: anonymous analytics via DataFast (pages viewed, referrer, country, device) and server-side click counts on listings. When you sign in with X for the Book Club: your X user id, handle, display name and profile picture URL, and the recommendations, votes and comments you make, which are public and shown with your name and picture. We do not receive your X password, email or private data, and we cannot post as you.
Why
To run the leaderboard, send the newsletter you asked for, and understand how people use the site.
Who we share with
Stripe (payments), Supabase (database hosting), Vercel (site hosting), DataFast (analytics), and X (sign in with X, which tells X you signed in here). Book covers are loaded from Open Library and profile pictures from X. We do not sell your data.
Cookies
DataFast sets a first-party cookie to tell returning visitors apart. If you sign in with X we set a session cookie so you stay signed in; signing out clears it. Subscribing to the newsletter sets a small cookie that unlocks the skills library on your device. There are no advertising cookies.
Your choices
Unsubscribe from any newsletter email. Sign out of the Book Club at any time and delete your own comments from the page. Message @dylan_builds to have your email, listing data, or Book Club account, recommendations, votes and comments deleted.
Where it's stored
On servers run by the providers above, which may be outside your country.
