A founder building an A/B testing tool alongside a full time job shared how it passed roughly $2K in monthly recurring revenue. According to the post, the biggest channel was not a launch or an ad budget. It was a habit of finding new Reddit conversations and answering them well.
How to find new Reddit threads with a Google time filter
Instead of posting about the product, the author ran Google searches combining his category, the word reddit and a recent time window such as the last 24 hours. That surfaces threads where someone is actively asking for a recommendation or describing a problem. He replied with useful answers and let people find the product through his profile or a relevant mention.
At first, he says, nothing happened. Then upvotes, profile clicks and trials trickled in, and Reddit became the main acquisition channel. He also noticed people now search in questions ("what's a good Google Optimize alternative?") and Reddit threads rank for them, so the same answers positioned his tool as an alternative to bigger names.
Why it works
You join conversations that already have intent and attention instead of manufacturing attention. Those threads keep working in Google and, the author says, in ChatGPT and Perplexity answers too. By contrast he reports newsletter sponsorships were costly and a few thousand dollars of Google Ads returned almost nothing.
How to copy it
Write down five phrases your buyers use when stuck. Search each with reddit and a time filter daily. Answer only when you add something real, disclose that you built the product if you mention it, and collect G2 style reviews so the trust earned in threads converts. Then be patient.
